It’s been 20 years since Chicago-based industrial rock band Stabbing Westward released their self-titled LP that led to their eventual breakup and forming of The Dreaming (if you enjoy Stabbing Westward, there are some fantastic songs in their discography).

In 2015, frontman Christopher Hall reformed the band, which began touring to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary, which eventually led to the release of a (very hard to get) new song on the Cold Waves VI compilation back in 2017.

Then, out of nowhere, the band returned with their first proper release in two decades, the three-song EP Dead & Gone, the first official new music since 2001.

Now, as promised, Stabbing Westward is officially back with their first full-length LP in 20 years, Chasing Ghosts, which is set to drop on March 18, 2022, via COP International Records. The album features 10 tracks that have the industrial rock band’s characteristic sound with a modern sheen that picks up right where they left off. Pre-order packages are available here.

Oh, and did I mention that the band got back together with their original producer (John Fryer; Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, 4AD, Cocteau Twins) and masterer (Tom Baker) so it really brings back that chemistry that made them big ’90s mainstays?! Fuck yeah.

Even cooler, Chasing Ghosts features artwork by David Seidman, the artist who has also worked with Coheed and Cambria and is known for his ethereal and surrealistic imagery that calls to mind ‎Salvador Dalí.

Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive look at all of Seidman’s absolutely stunning art that completes Stabbing Westward’s Chasing Ghosts, with the cover art directly inspired by the track “Ghost”:

“As a fan of Stabbing Westward since the mid-90s, the dark emotional themes that run through their music became building blocks for my own work,” Seidman tells Bloody Disgusting. “That’s why, when Chris Hall approached me with the idea of creating artwork for the new album, I felt as if I had been preparing for this project for the last 25 years.

“After hearing the song ‘Ghost’, I instantly fell in love with the line, ‘trapped in the wreckage of our lives,’ and built the cover image around that idea…

A lone figure in a window, surrounded by the death and destruction that comes from chasing a reality that is constantly pulling away,” he added.

“So much of what Stabbing Westward’s music meant to me as a young art school student in the 90s is echoed in my work today. Having the opportunity, 25 years later, to create a piece of art that will represent the band is an amazing example of how creativity can come full circle.”
